Saint’s Name

Encourage your child to consider a saint that likes the things they do. For example, if
your daughter has musical talent and is considering that as a career then St. Cecilia would be a good
choice. Or if your son has that talent, then St. Gregory the Great. If your child is good at working with
their hands in carpentry or craftwork, St. Joseph/Josephine would be a good choice. If law enforcement
is where they would like to do, then St. Michael the Archangel is a good choice. Ask them what they
like to do or what they would like to be when they grow up, and then find a saint for that talent or

I will need your child’s saint’s name by the time we begin the seven-week crash course class in
September. They can send the saint’s choice to me via the parish email [email protected] or to
Nan Kramer, our PREP coordinator at [email protected].
They are also to write a paper about the saint in their own words. Cutting and pasting are not permitted!

Citations

You will need to submit any websites or book references as part of the paper. The paper should be no more than two pages, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font.
The content of the body of the paper is simple:

• Tell me where the saint is from, and family history if any.
• When and why he/she was canonized (what did they do that made them holy, such as martyrdom, founded a religious order, cared for the poor and hungry, etc.)
• What is he or she the patron saint of.
• Why did they choose this saint.

Sponsors

1. Fully initiated Catholic – Baptized, Confirmed, First Holy Communion. Non-Catholics cannot be a sponsor. Consider one of the people who was the sponsor at baptism.
2. If married, then by the Catholic Sacrament of Marriage or dispensation from their local bishop to be married to a non-Catholic. Civil licenses only are not accepted. Living with someone they’re not married to (Co-habitation) is not accepted. Divorced and remarried outside the church are not accepted.
3. Not the candidate’s parent. But any other 14 and older relative will suffice.
4. Doing their best to fulfill their obligations as fully practicing Catholics.
5. If they are a member of this parish, they must take an interview with me either in person or over the phone. If from another parish, they must provide a sponsorship form from the parish. If they have not lived in this parish for over a year, they cannot receive it from us. They must go to their local parish. Receiving sacraments is not a carte blanche to being eligible for sponsorship here. They must go to their local parish to get a sponsorship form.

Letter to the Bishop

• The letter should begin with Dear Excellency.
• Introduce yourself and tell him some biographical information about yourself.
• Share your reason for the letter, your desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation-this should      include all the preparation and study that you have done in making yourself prepared for the              reception of this sacrament. If you have completed any community service you could include it.
• Close your letter, inofrming the Bishop how you plan to remain connected to your faith and the Church in the Future.
• Conclude your letter with your complete signature.
